Swift's New 30 Foot Autoclave Now Online
SWIFT'S NEW 30 FOOT AUTOCLAVE NOW ONLINE
San Clemente, California – August 31st, 2012
Swift Engineering’s new onsite state-of-the-art composite manufacturing facility is one step closer to completion with the new 10 by 30 foot and 4 by 8 foot ASC autoclaves having come online and being used to produce composite components.
“With the successful installation and subsequent commissioning of the autoclaves, Swift is now one of very few companies in Southern California with the capability to cure composite structures of this size. Already, the new 10 by 30 ft autoclave is booked until the end of this year, both for internal projects and those of our customers. The project’s focus is now on finishing our highly-advanced 3,850 square foot clean room for lamination of aerospace and space grade composite tools and components. We anticipate our new clean room will be operational by December,” said Casper van der Schoot whom in addition to heading-up Swift’s motorsport operations is also overseeing the company’s significant infrastructure and resource expansion.
Swift’s new clean room, along with its two new autoclaves, is housed in a new onsite 10,000 square foot manufacturing facility. This Class 100,000 rated clean room has a high split-level ceiling measuring twelve and sixteen feet in height and will accommodate moulds up to 75 ft long.
In addition to tightly controlled and monitored temperature and humidity values, Swift’s new clean room boasts an advanced and powerful air filtration and circulation system to provide an extremely low level of airborne particles. Swift’s new clean room exceeds any current aerospace standard for the manufacture of composite components.
“Our new clean room is designed to never allow more than 100,000 particles of 0.5 microns or larger per cubic foot of air,” stated Roger Buttacavoli, Swift’s Director of Operations; for contextual reference a human hair is about 75-100 microns in diameter. “The clean room will be airtight and pressurized and feature an airlock, while epoxy coatings make all surfaces washable.”
Following the highly recognized Nadcap accreditation for composites and in anticipation of more stringent industry standards for the manufacture of composites, Swift is further positioning itself to land major space and aerospace contracts with the addition of this advanced composite manufacturing facility.

Swift Honored With Composite Industry Manufacturing Innovation Award
JEC AMERICAS AWARDS SWIFT FOR COMPOSITE MANUFACTURING PROCESS INNOVATION
San Clemente, California – November 08, 2012
Swift Honored With Composite Industry Manufacturing Innovation Award
Swift Engineering received the coveted composite industry award for best ‘Process Innovation’ by JEC Americas at their fourteenth annual awards held at its convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Initially Swift’s process innovation was used to produce highly-advanced aerodynamic racecar wings; however, now it has evolved its award-winning process for aerospace components for its tier one and tier two clients.
JEC’s Process Innovation Award recognized Swift Engineering and its partnership with material supplier partners Umeco’s Richmond Aircraft Products and Advanced Composites Group, which were both recently acquired by Cytec. Swift created a complex load-bearing, aerodynamic composite structure that traditionally required autoclave manufacturing and developed an out-of-autoclave press mold process that co-cures the external skins and internal spar structure in single one- cure cycle. This shortened process produces structures with excellent outer mold line repeatability, reduces production time by half and thereby reduces manufacturing costs by 30 percent compared to conventional three-piece autoclave process.
JEC launched its Innovation Awards Program in 1998 with the goal of both celebrating and promoting the very best new innovations in composites. Since then, its innovation awards has involved 1,600 businesses, and rewarded 177 companies and 433 partners for their leading contributions toward advancing composites technology and enhancing value for end-users.
